First Annual Holiday Gift Guide!

apollina baker

I am so excited to do a smattering of gift ideas for you all!  I love giving gifts... It is one of my preferred "love languages".  I like to give because I know how good it makes me feel when I receive them.  So, I've certainly done the leg work in terms of finding gifts that best suit the targeted recipient.  My rule of thumb with giving gifts is to buy something for someone you know they would like but probably wouldn't buy themselves.   For the ladies in my life, I like to buy makeup (that's probably my most oft-gifted item) and jewelry.  The flip side to that rule of thumb is to buy something that, if they knew it was out there, they probably would buy for themselves.  Novelty items are great, things that have your gift recipient’s name all over it.  Okay... let's get started!

For the Girl with a Sweet Tooth...

Pretty candies are the perfect things to stuff into the stocking of a candy lover!  Handmade candies from Papabubble are pretty remarkable.  You can get personalized candies, hand-rolled spiral lollipops and even fancy candy rings in assorted artisanal flavors!  There is a store in New York and you can place orders through their website.

For the Beauty Queen...

YSL's Volupte Sheer Candy ($30) is a luxurious lipstick with an irresistible name.  And because it's sheer, the colors are more universally wearable.  Dewy Papaya or Grapefruit are excellent choices!  I LOVE Lorac's gift sets.  I have purchased these many years in a row for loved ones.  This year's Bejeweled Day & Night Jewelry Box contains 36 pretty products and is only $56!  Any beauty addict will be overjoyed with this collection.  I also love Sephora's Glitter and Sparkle Four Piece Full Size Nail Colour Set.  At only $28, it's pretty much the perfect gift.   Also a great gift, a pretty compact - a girl can never have enough!  Estée Lauder's Golden Alligator Compact ($33) is filled with Lucidity Translucent Pressed Powder for luminous touchups throughout the day.  What woman doesn't want that?

For the Cozy Glamour Girl...

These Steve Madden loafers ($120) look so comfortable... if I opened these on Christmas morning, I would surely be wearing them all day!  And to help keep her warm this season... metallic suede gloves ($36), gold polka-dot scarves ($30), a black fedora ($30) and a silver metallic snood from ASOS, ($32) should do the trick!

For the Baubley One...

I love these stacked rings from Etsy ($55) they seem perfect for every day wear- so dainty and  feminine.  You need to know your friend/sister/mother's ring size so, a little investigatory work is required.   Pretty wrist decorations from BaubleBar are a bit easier to gift:  gold & white wrist wrap ($32); Pastel Bangle Trio ($52); Coral Multi-Pop bracelet ($28).

Sparkly Chic(k)...

These glittery bags are just $59.50 at J. Crew!

For the Hostess...

These tumblers from Bed Bath & Beyond are so pretty, I would love to drink my green stuff out of them:)  And this white & gold tray that we've all mourned the one-of-a-kindness of (sold out on Etsy), we can make ourselves! It's even more special to give homemade gifts anyway...

For Miss Thoughtful...

I love this Dotted Gold Notebook ($16) and this Feel Good Pencil Set ($8).  Give some positive reinforcement to your pensive pal with writing utensils that say things like, "You're Chic" and "Your talent is amazing"...

For the Lady-on-the-Go...

Insulated tumblers ($10) for cold drinks and ceramic travel mugs for hot ones are enviro-conscious and are a necessary luxury item if you ask me...  You can get them in fashionable houndstooth prints ($15), or, for a bit more money, buy a hand painted one on Etsy!

For the Yardie...

How fun is this leopard hose?!  You can buy "hose clothes" ($24) for a fashionable gardener friend, they come in a couple other prints too.  Or buy a handmade, decorative tree swing ($71) for a family you love, they'll hold children and adults or both!  From Dirt Couture.

For the Girl with a Heart of Gold...

Give a goat, chicken or cow. There are a number of organizations through which you can give animals to nourish hungry children and families.  This year, my little sister had the idea of us all donating animals instead of buying gifts for each other.  For a friend or family member who has a heart for others, buy them a little stuffed animal with a note saying an animal was given and a family was fed in their name.  We are giving through World Vision but there are lots of others, like Heifer International for instance.

For Him...

Cologne is a tricky gift to get the man in your life.  I will give you a fail-safe:  Hanae Mori - the best men's cologne hands down (in my opinion).  It combines about 50 different scents to create the essence of what a man should smell like (in my opinion).  I cannot get enough!  A nice bottle of spirits, for one who enjoys them, is a much appreciated gift.  Add to that the novelty (and just plain coolness) of a  programmable bottle that plays up to 6 scrolling messages and the dude will think you're the coolest chick on the planet.  I actually bought Medea Vodka for Brad last Christmas and he was like a little kid!  A little kid who's allowed to drink alcohol that is.  He showed it off to everyone and played and loves to play with it.  He programs messages whenever he has friends over, like, "Go Seahawks", or "Brad is Awesome".  It's fantastic vodka too.  Another tried and true gift for guys: a pair of Sanuks.  They average around $60 and they come in all different colors and shapes, he'll love them.  Check out the reviews on Zappos: 5 Stars, 275 guys can't be wrong.

For the Fun Guy:

Fun iPhone stands, $7. Unzipped glass snack bag, $19, Spilt Milk silicone cereal bowl, $15,  Bacon Soap, $6.

About the soap, ewe.  But I know a lot of guys who would think this is cool.

Okay, that's a wrap!  Keep me posted on what you all are buying... What are some gifts you like to give for the holidays? And what do you like to receive??

xoxo!
